I want to learn more about prevention and regulation
Operators' Responsible Gaming Policies
The partners in our project have committed to upholding 29 legal obligations, divided into four areas. Together, they are strengthening player protection and prevention efforts, enhancing employee training, and implementing responsible marketing and advertising practices.
Gambling is a legitimate form of entertainment for people over the age of 18. When effective responsible gambling rules are in place and applicable laws are followed, it is a safe form of entertainment.
Our partners must conduct their business in a way that ensures their products are safe and are not targeted at minors or other vulnerable groups. They will also promote responsible gaming and adhere to established ethical guidelines—including in the areas of advertising and marketing—to protect vulnerable and at-risk customers who have access to their products.
Player protection is best achieved through a coordinated and unified approach by the entire industry—with the support of the regulator, input from experts, and in collaboration with other entities that contribute to fostering a responsible gaming environment.
Self-regulation by operators is an effective tool that is significantly more effective than implementing blanket measures when establishing new safety standards.
What operators are required to comply with under the law
The statutory regulations contained in the individual provisions of Act No. 186/2016 Coll., on Gambling, as amended, and Act No. 40/1995, on the Regulation of Advertising, are in themselves quite strict and provide many supportive tools.
Gambling is not an alternative to work or a job; it is a fun leisure activity. Gambling is like buying a movie ticket—an expense for entertainment. If you treat gambling as a way to make money, you’ll end up spending more than you earn.
In 2020, a registry of individuals barred from participating in gambling was launched. This registry includes individuals who are prohibited from participating in selected forms of gambling, including all forms of gambling operated online. These are individuals who, for example, receive welfare benefits, have been legally declared bankrupt under the Insolvency Act, or have had such a restriction imposed by a court as part of criminal proceedings. Alternatively, any of you may have yourselves added to the registry upon your own request.
As of July 1, 2022, this also applies to individuals who fail to fulfill their child support obligations toward a dependent child who has been awarded substitute child support.
Instructions on how to register in the register of disqualified persons.
Everyone must register before they can start playing. As part of the registration process, in addition to verifying your age, we check whether you are listed in the aforementioned registry of excluded individuals, and you set your own self-exclusion limits. Registration is complete once the information you provided has been verified.
Starting July 1, 2024, gambling operators are required to provide players with an emergency button to block further play.
The button serves as an emergency brake in cases where a player’s gambling has gotten out of hand and they need to take a break. Upon pressing the button, the player will be immediately prevented from further play for a period of 48 hours. This applies to both legal brick-and-mortar gaming establishments, casinos, and betting offices, as well as all online games.
Operators must then also offer the player the option to permanently enroll in the Register of Excluded Persons.

What are all the possible limits you can set?
Maximum bets per day or calendar month
- If you set a maximum bet, you can be sure that you won't exceed the amount you've set aside for the game. All your bets are added up, and as soon as you reach your limit, the system will stop you in time.
Net losses per day or calendar month
- It doesn't matter how many bets you place or how much money you put into the game. What matters is that all losses incurred during the game are added up. If they reach your limit, the system will stop you from playing again.
The number of logins to your player account
- Logging into your player account means entering your login credentials and password. Once you reach the set limit, the system will not allow you to access your account.
The duration of a daily login to a player account
- This is calculated from the moment the player card is inserted into the machine until it is removed. Of course, the time spent on all machines is added together. For online games, it is calculated from the moment the login credentials are entered.
The period during which you will not be allowed to play
- The last limit is one that may be particularly useful if you want to take a break from gaming for an extended period of time. The most common options are 12 hours, a day, a week, a month, or half a year. During this time, you will not be able to log in to your player account.
Number of visits to the casino
- If you visit the casino, you can set a limit on the number of visits you make. Once you reach that limit, you will not be allowed into the casino.
Even if you don't set a limit, there's another safeguard in place. After every 120 minutes of play, it will display a stopwatch, and you'll have to take a 15-minute break from playing.
Advertisements must not be targeted at persons under the age of 18 and must not give players the impression that income from gambling can replace regular employment. Furthermore, advertisements must include mandatory warnings regarding the prohibition on participation by persons under the age of 18 and warnings about the potential for addiction.
What Operators Do Beyond Regulatory Requirements
Legal regulation takes a one-size-fits-all approach, which may not always be effective. Therefore, voluntary self-regulation can serve as a useful complement to it, particularly in the areas of prevention, harm reduction, and responsible gambling.
Awareness of how to gamble responsibly is not widespread in society. That is why we, together with our partners, strive to provide clear information on how to maintain control over gambling, what tools are available, and where to seek effective help if needed. This information is available and searchable on our partners’ websites and is part of our project’s regular communications. And because you can never repeat this message enough, our partners regularly remind their customers to set their own self-imposed limits.
Every operator must display to the player the total duration of their participation in the game or the balance in their player account. In the case of technical games, the operator must also provide a complete overview of the player’s losses. Furthermore, the operator must provide its own contact information or the contact information of institutions involved in prevention, information regarding the prohibition on gambling by persons under the age of 18, and a warning about the harmful effects of gambling. And a game plan that every player can view at any time.
Using artificial intelligence and big data analysis, we are developing a predictive mathematical model that will evaluate changes in a gambler’s behavior in real time. The software we are developing will be able to recognize the moment when a player begins to gamble recklessly and will immediately alert the player to this fact. In collaboration with leading Czech scientific institutions, we are developing an immediate intervention designed to help players regain control over their behavior.
Education is important, which is why our partners’ employees receive regular training on responsible gaming. The training is conducted in a standardized manner by professional trainers under the supervision of experts. After completing the training, our partners’ employees are able to advise you or assist you regarding problem gambling.
Our primary concern is the protection of minors and at-risk groups. That is why our commitments include the first code of socially responsible marketing and advertising, which comprehensively addresses advertising across all platforms (TV, radio, print, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others), as well as its visual presentation, content, and frequency.
Responsible Operators
A responsible operator is one that puts the player and the player’s protection first. Operators who share this philosophy have joined the Responsible Gaming project and committed to upholding all 29 commitments. You can recognize them by the Responsible Gaming logo displayed on their websites and in their advertisements, or by a sticker posted at the entrance to their establishments.
