For many people, movies are their very first conscious exposure to gambling, and they use that to form an idea of what the world of gambling looks like. People who may have no experience with it form an image of what the world of gambling looks like based on this simplified portrayal. What does it look like in reality? Gambling dates back to ancient times, and in many cases it was linked to some form of athletic competition. While we don’t bet on chariot races as much anymore, gambling is still very much a part of sports. We can talk, for example, about betting on tennis, basketball, or soccer.
